Put the Cancer Industry & Bush Administration On Trial for Crimes Against Our Health & Environment

We Need Cancer Prevention,
Not Corporations That Profit from Cancer!

Did you know that every 3 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, and a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer? Cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death for children.

Did you know that "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" was founded by companies that make cancer-causing chemicals?

Industry and government should adopt the Precautionary Principle to protect health not polluters!

Join us as we expose the link between high cancer rates, pollution, wars for oil, government policies that protect polluters, and corporations that profit from causing cancer and "treating" cancer!

The Toxic Links Coalition is a growing alliance of cancer survivors, community and environmental health and justice groups, women with endometriosis and other individuals working together to educate our communities about the links between environmental toxins and public health.

Stop Cancer Where It Starts!

October was first declared "National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) in 1984 by Zeneca, then an American subsidiary of a British corporation, Imperial Chemical Industries, the largest manufacturer of synthetic chemicals in the world. Signified by the pink ribbon, NBCAM and its corporate sponsors continue to promote cancer research and questionable screening by mammography while never mentioning the link between cancer and environmental pollution. Meanwhile, the cancer incidence continues to rise.

The Toxic Links Coalition started the Cancer Industry tour in 1994 to expose the corporate connections to cancer covered up by NBCAM and the blatant conflicts of interest in the "cancer industry" which puts profit before public health. This year we will put some of them on trial.

The Bush/Cheney Administration connection

  • Started an illegal war and lied to the American public about it.
  • Following in the footsteps of Daddy's war in the Persian Gulf, condones the use of depleted uranium by the U.S. military in Iraq.
  • Is silent about the fact that since Desert Storm the cancer rate among Iraqi children has risen by six fold.
  • Blocked tougher standards for arsenic in drinking water and abandoned Kyoto treaty.
  • Signed off on allowing polluters to dump industrial waste into waterways and proposed a Clean Air Act change that would allow the nation's dirtiest power plants to expand.

The PG&E connection

  • Runs an outdated, polluting power plant in Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood where residents suffer the city's highest rate of asthma hospitalizations and cancer.
  • Refuses to relocate Midway Village low-income housing in Daly City, where residents suffer continual exposure to cancer-causing chemicals from the PG&E site next door.
  • Runs the nuclear power plant at Diablo Canyon and proposed dumping radioactive waste on sacred Indian land at Ward Valley.

The Bechtel connection

  • Builds nuclear power plants all over the world, each one of which continues to release ionizing radiation, known to cause cancer, into our atmosphere.
  • Operates a nuclear weapons test site on traditional Western Shoshone land in Nevada that has suffered more than 900 nuclear explosions.
  • Engages in war profiteering, having won contracts to "rebuild" Iraq, where they have contributed to the use of depleted uranium.
