But IES Tries to Drive Waste Truck Into Peaceful Crowd Including Elders and Kids! Following a moratorium on action in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, our coalition resumed our peaceful protests at IES November 7th. Over 75 people, including lots of kids and senior citizens, attended the spirited protest. In the middle of the protest, IES tried to drive a truck through us, and the truck actually did hit several people - no one was hurt. The crowd remained peaceful, despite IES' reckless provocation, but people were determined and did not allow the waste truck to proceed. IES called Oakland police, who arrived and unneccessarily pushed and shoved people including Hal Carroll, an 82 year old long time resident and PUEBLO member. We refused
to be intimidated, and completed the rally. We left at 6:30 p.m., promising
to return! |
