| Formosa Plastics and U.S. Ecology Planning to Import Mercury Waste From Taiwan and Dump It In Beatty, Nevada Read the front page story in the Las Vegas Review Journal:
| Greenaction Blows The Whistle Last month Greenaction and our allies stopped Formosa Plastics from shipping their mercury-contaminated waste generated at their Taiwan factory and dumped illegally in Cambodia from being shipped to California and dumped at the Safety-Kleen toxic waste dump in Westmorland, California, a low-income Spanish-speaking community. Formosa Plastics was forced to clean up their mess in Cambodia and take the waste back to Taiwan. Unfortunately, they are trying again to ship it to a dump in the U.S., but fortunately Greenaction is working to stop them again and to force the company to keep the waste at their factory site in Taiwan to minimize the danger to communities in Taiwan as well as in the U.S.. U.S. Ecology (the company trying - unsuccessfully - to build a nuclear waste dump at Ward Valley) hopes to import the mercury contaminated waste to their toxic dump in Beatty, Nevada. Envirosafe is also trying to get it to their facility in Idaho.....Greenaction is alerting residents in both states to take action to defend their health and environment. |
