No more environmental racism against the people of Midway Village! The low-income people of color residents of the toxic-contaminated Midway Village housing project in San Mateo County, California are under attack again...and need your help today. Midway Village was built on top of toxic waste from the adjacent PG&E Martin substation facility, and residents have long complained of serious health problems they believe are linked to the cancer-causing chemicals near their homes. Now, adding insult to injury, PG&E has apparently given permission to Calpine to bring in a polluting power plant to operate at the Martin substation, right across the fence from Midway Village. The California Energy Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District are now reviewing the proposal, which is being "fast-tracked" in an attempt to railroad the project through. This power plant proposal, and the lack of a legitimate public environmental review process, is another chapter in the environmental racism against Midway Village. Letter From the Residents To All Supporters of Environmental Justice, The families of Midway Village are being attacked once again by PG&E and Calpine. These companies are trying to rush this power plant project through without informing the residents. To build a power plant on this superfund site would be a slap in the face to all Midway families that are sick and dying from toxic exposure. A power plant is just what we need to cause more suffering for our families. The Midway families need your help and support to stop this Environmental Racism. What else are these companies planning for our community? Enough is enough!!! Thank you, Lula Bishop
