Midway Project Protested From Staff Reports BRISBANE -- Protesters blocked Main Street for two hours Tuesday morning to bring attention to concerns over construction near the Midway Village housing project. The protest was peaceful and no arrests were made, police said. Bradley Angel of the environmental group Greenaction said about 15 protesters protested construction of a storm drainage pipe around and through Pacific Gas & Electric Co. dirt which the group says contains toxic chemicals. The group, made up of environmentalists and residents of nearby Midway Village, has protested at the site several times. It will protest again Thursday morning, Angel said. Residents are concerned the digging could harm their health. Angel claimed the work is being done outside the hours and time limits set by its state-laid plan and that it is causing noxious odors. A spokesman for the state Department of Toxic Substance Control, which created the plan, said the air is being monitored and no problems have been reported. The project has been delayed by weather and other factors.
