"We Want Clean, Renewable, Affordable Energy & Conservation,Not Asthma, Air Pollution & Dirty Power Plants"

Youth from Bayview Hunters Point and other San Francisco neighborhoods led a spirited march and rally to kick-off a community campaign to bring about the long-overdue of the antiquated and polluting PG&E Hunters Point Power Plant. The Youth on Fire! event brought together hundreds of youth, and over 100 people then marched to the PG&E power plant.

The march and rally was sponsored by Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ), Greenaction, Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates and the Community First Coalition. This new coalition and campaign is calling for clean, renewable and affordable energy instead of polluting power plants that threaten the health of youth and the entire community.

The rally coincided with PG&E's annual shareholder meeting being held in San Francisco. Speakers at the rally included youth and elders residing in the communities most impacted by PG&E's dirty industries and skyrocketing rates, Greenaction and other community activists.

Residents of Bayview Hunters Point suffer the highest rates of asthma in California as well as one of the highest known rates of breast cancer.
