Victory Alert

Today We Are Pleased to Report Great News! Victory!

Shell's representative has just sent a letter to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The letter says in part:

"On behalf of Shell Oil Company we request withdrawal of application #2136 for the above referenced Shell service station."

As a result of this victory, the protest planned for Wednesday, December 18th is CANCELLED!

However, we must now challenge the air district to end their ongoing violation of environmental justice in our communities.

Community Defeats Shell's Expansion and Stops Cancer Threat!

Greenaction is proud to have worked with residents, parents, teachers, students, the Chinese Progressive Association, PODER and Coleman Advocates for Youth in defeating plans by Shell Oil to double their pumping capacity at a gas station next to homes and schools. The Shell facility is located in San Francisco's Excelsior District, a working class community populated primarily by many non-English Speaking Latino and Asian families. In an act of environmental injustice and racism, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District approved the permit without even holding a promised public meeting with the community - and despite acknowledging an increased cancer risk due to significant benzene emissions.
