Attend the May 20, 2002 "Community Meeting" sponsored by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District regarding the Red Star Yeast factory in West Oakland, California What The Air District is holding a community meeting on May 20th, and a public hearing on June 20th, to receive public comment regarding the Red Star Yeast company's application for a new Title V Clean Air Act permit. Red Star Yeast emits cancer causing chemicals and noxious odors into the air of this low-income community of color. The Air District has ignored community complaints about the toxic pollution and overwhelming odors. This proposed new permit would allow the serious toxic pollution and noxious odors to be continued to be emitted for another five years! When Monday, May 20, 2002, 6:30 p.m. Where West Oakland Multi-Service Center, 1801 Adeline Street, Oakland, CA Why This meeting precedes the Title V public hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 20, 2002. Red Star Yeast has applied for renewal of their operating permit. As part of the Title V process, the Air District needs to hear from the public about our concerns. Spanish language interpreter will be available. |
